Course Overview:

This session covers the fundamental knowledge of professional ethics and its importance in internal auditor’s professional development. By discussing case studies, this course aims to provide insights how an organisation’s governance culture, individual's moral intensity and circumstances may attribute to ethical dilemma faced by internal auditors at workplace. In addition, participants are exposed to learn and apply practical approaches to analyse and make consistent decision consistent in line with internal auditor’s professional values and belief.

Suitable for all internal auditors who want to learn and understand the importance of Ethics in the profession.

Course description :

At the end of the session, the participants (internal audit profession) will be able to define the following:
• the 3rd-line-of-defence role of internal auditor in corporate governance framework
• the definition and principles of ethics at work and its relevance and importance in internal auditor’s professional development,
• the category of ethical dilemma mostly faced by internal auditors
• the application of IIA's professional code of ethics as character (virtue) development for internal auditors
• the 3C practical approaches - Command, Consequence and Character - to ethical analysis

• Internal auditor’s role in accordance with IIA's 3rd-line-of-defence model in corporate governance framework
• Corporate governance framework
• Ethics’ concept and principles
• Category of Ethical Dilemma (Case Studies)
• IIA’s professional code of ethics 

Ian Ng has over 23 years of consulting, internal auditing, training and project management experiences in corporate governance, risk & compliance (GRC). His past working experiences were with banks, international auditing firm, listed company and Governmental-linked Corporation (GLC) in Singapore.

He started his consulting and training business in 2009. Since then, he has consulted many listed companies, government agencies (Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei), GLCs across ASEAN countries in the implementation of enterprise risk management (ERM), business continuity management (BCM), information security management, project management. Furthermore, he has trained over 1000 business managers, management professionals, senior management from companies across Asia Pacific.

Prior to his consulting practice, he was previously Head of PMO of Jurong Port, who was responsible for business transformation projects. He was also appointed as Enterprise-wide Risk Manager and successfully implemented ERM and BCM Frameworks.

His risk management consulting experience includes hospitality, property development, insurance, multimedia and publishing, building management, oil & gas, waste management and environmental services, education, port operations, shipping & logistics, supply chain, government agencies & financial services (Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei), food & beverages, technology-based companies and so on.

Ian is currently an ACTA-certified trainer with certified professional credentials, such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). He holds a Honours degree in Accounting & Finance from Lancaster University, UK, and Master of Business IT from Curtin University of Technology, Australia.
